Association Heartsaver First Aid

No formal credit is awarded.
Students who
complete
the course will be awarded a completion card valid for two years from
the American Heart
Association.
Description
This course is designed to meet the needs
of the
general
public and lay rescuers. It provides basic information and
practical skills for use at home or the workplace. This
course is
well-suited for workplace safety teams, security guards, school
workers, day care
staff, teachers, coaches, babysitters, civic groups, church
organizations, etc. Topics include:
- General principles of first
aid and scene safety
- Common medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Information on environmental
emergencies may be
presented as time permits
Students should dress for practice on
classmates and/or
training manikins.
Some of this practice may be on the floor.
A similar course is available that includes adult/child CPR and use
of an automated external defibrillator under the title Heartsaver First
Aid with CPR and AED. A pediatric version of this course is also
available by request
that focuses on care for children and infants which is especially
well-suited for babysitters and elementary school and day care workers.
Prerequisites
There are no formal
prerequisites. Students are
expected to practice the various rescue techniques on fellow students
and/or a training manikin.
