EMS & Trauma Education
Assisting the MICU
Credit
9.0 elective NJ EMT CEUs have been approved for this
program by the
NJ Department of Health & Senior Services Office of Emergency
Medical
Services. The National Registry of EMTs accepts NJ EMT CEUs on a
one-for-one basis.
Description
Patients in the field are best served by an integrated
EMS healthcare team. Very few EMT initial training programs
teach
the EMT what the mobile intensive care unit (MICU) does and how to
optimally
work with MICU personnel. Similar to other
"paramedic
assistant" courses, this program bridges that gap by presenting:
- An orientation to mobile intensive care in New
Jersey;
- Elements of the paramedic's decision-making
process;
- A reinforcement of selected EMT-level skills
that
are essential
in ALS triage and treatment;
- How to help MICU personnel prepare for routine
ALS
skills.
The program uses both lectures and skill stations.
