Basic
Life Support for Healthcare
Providers RENEWAL (Professional-level CPR)Credit
The NJ DHSS-OEMS allows EMT-Bs
to use this professional-level CPR certification for 2 elective
CEUs toward recertification. The EMT must keep track of this credit
as it is not automatically registered in their learming management
system (LMS).
Description
Students must pass both a skills
and written test
to
complete the course and receive a completion card good for two
years. There are two
methods for obtaining BLS
for
Healthcare Providers
renewal:
Classroom-Based Renewal
Since the updated renewal
and new initial classes are
approximately the same length, we refer students who prefer a
classroom-based refresher and renewal to the BLS for Healthcare Providers
course.
Internet-Based Renewal With In-Person Skills Test
Students must have a valid professional-level CPR
card (as
described
in our prerequisites below).
First, purchase and complete the AHA-sponsored
Internet-based training module and print the official Part 1 certificate. Next, register with both your current CPR card
and
the Part 1 certificate of completion for a skills
validation session (Part 2) on the dates listed. After you
have completed
both
sections of the
process, you will be issued an American Heart Association BLS for
Healthcare Providers card. There
is no extension or grace period by starting this process.
Students must submit the official AHA Part 1 certificate as proof they completed the
on-line renewal no more than 60 days prior to their skill session.
The skills validation must be
completed before the expiration date on your CPR card or 60 days from
completion of the on-line coursework, whichever comes first.
Candidates must come prepared and should take no more than 15
minutes for their skill session. Students who require significant
remediation will be directed to repeat a regular course.
Prerequisites
- An American Heart Association
BLS for the
Healthcare
Providers card, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card
or
professional
level CPR certification from the National Safety Council current on the
date of the skill session is
required to register.
- Students must be physically
able to perform all
skills
on a training manikin, which can be strenuous when done
correctly. The
American Heart Association requires that students adequately
demonstrate all skills to their guidelines in order to complete the
course.
- Students enrolling for the
skills validation
after the on-line renewal
must submit the AHA Part 1 certificate as proof of completion for the
on-line training at the time of
registration.
