Department of Emergency Preparedness Educational Offerings
The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Department of Emergency Preparedness is dedicated to providing timely and appropriate disaster management education to all providers through a range of courses from hospital-specific to community-based as well as didactic to the operational-level. This page represents the courses scheduled for 2016 and it is the hope that the courses offered will foster inter-agency communication and relationships that will not only improve departmental readiness but regional resiliency as well.
Hospital-Based Courses
Courses under the "Hospital-Based" category are only open to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital employees only and can only be registered for directly or through the hospital intranet site where available.
First Receiver Operations for the Emergency Department
These competency-based didactic and practical course is designed specifically for the Emergency Department employees of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to provide them with the necessary tools, procedures, and practices to decontaminate patients presenting from a hazardous materials incident.
Community-Based Courses
Courses under the "Community-Based" category are open to all responders and are taught by our experienced instructors or nationally recognized institutions.
Advanced Critical Infrastructure Protection (TEEX MGT414)
This course is designed to allow participants to enhance their skills to formulate considerations for the resiliency of jurisdictional assets leveraging cross-sector partnerships. These considerations will enhance the whole community’s ability to manage the risk associated with critical infrastructure protection efforts. The course will implement the National Preparedness Goal by facilitating the development of Resiliency Action Plans, involving all jurisdictional critical infrastructure partners. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to increase infrastructure owner/operator participation in jurisdictional planning, organizing, equipping, training, and exercising critical infrastructure protection efforts.

Basic Disaster Life Support
This 7.5 hour competency-based, awareness-level course introduces the concepts and principles necessary for health professionals to prepare for the management of injuries and illnesses causes by disasters and public health emergencies

Core Disaster Life Support
This 3.5 hour competency-based, awareness level course introduces clinical and public health concepts and principles for the management of disaster and public health emergencies.

February 19th/October 8th (8 am - 12 noon) and May 20th/November 18th (6 pm -10 pm)

Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience (TEEX AWR213)
This course will introduce participants to the key terms, policy, guidance, and preparedness efforts required to safeguard the Nation’s critical infrastructure. Participants will review applicable policy and guidance, discuss the risk management framework, describe Federal critical infrastructure security and resilience and information sharing programs, and relate critical infrastructure programs to individual actions.
Primary focus will be placed on local preparedness efforts as they relate to the national approach to critical infrastructure security and resilience. An understanding of the national approach to critical infrastructure enables critical infrastructure stakeholders to address local planning within a common framework. Informed planning is consistent with and expands on nationally accepted emergency management standards as the basis for planning across mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

Medical Management of CBRNE Events (TEEX PER211)
This course is a combination of facilitated discussions, small-group exercises, Human Patient Simulator hands-on scenarios, and traditional classroom discussion. Exercises are conducted in a CBRNE scenario using both adult and pediatric Human Patient Simulators to reinforce classroom lectures and interaction.
This course promoted critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID-Care concept. The multi-discipline make-up of the participants helps to strengthen information sharing, communications, and medical surge capabilities.

In order to ensure appropriate course resources and in respect to the instructors that set aside their time and expertise to provide training at our courses, the following shall be the practice of the Department of Emergency Preparedness regarding course registration and attendance:
In order to ensure appropriate course resources and in respect to the instructors that set aside their time and expertise to provide training at our courses, the following shall be the practice of the Department of Emergency Preparedness regarding course registration and attendance:
- For courses that are offered with a registration fee any cancellations occurring less than one week prior to the course date may be subject to a processing fee of up to fifty percent (50%) of the course cost. Failure to attend will result in a course processing fee of up to one-hundred percent (100%) of the course cost.
- For courses that are offered at no cost to participant failure to attend without prior notice of cancellation will result in possible notification to employer/agency regarding unscheduled absence as well as an automatic wait-listing of the participant for the next course they register for.
