Credit
This course has been approved for 1.0 elective EMT CEU by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services Office of Emergency Medical Services. Credit for NJ ALS personnel is awarded at the discretion of their MICU Clinical Coordinator. The National Registry of EMTs accepts NJ EMT credit on a one-for-one basis.Description
This session introduces EMS personnel to Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) which are mechanical devices that are surgically implanted to work along with profoundly sick and weak hearts. In some patients, they are a bridge to transplant. Other patients receive VADs as "destination therapy" because they are not candidates for heart transplant. RWJUH EMS has been recognized for its strong and effective partnership supporting the hospital's Cardiovascular Center of Excellence by training EMS workers in the communities where its VAD recipients live..Prerequisites
Attendees should be familiar with the prehospital care of patients with cardiac conditions.Date(s) & Time(s).
This course is available by request to EMS agencies who may support RWJUH LVAD patients in their coverage area.
