PALS Provider    PALS Renewal   PALS Skills Renewal   PALS Challenge   CPR Renewal at PALS

PALS Provider
The PALS program is a collaboration between the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The goals of the PALS course are to provide the participant with:
  • The information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest;
  • The information and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children; and
  • The cognitive and psycho-motor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • The course is intended for advanced-level health care providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children.
Students must have access to the current (Guidelines 2015) Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Manual (AHA publication 15-1058) before and during the course.

PALS Classroom Renewal
A one-day (8 hours) instructor-led classroom review with skills and scenarios practice. Evaluations include two Core Cases in which you serve as Team Leader and perform the hands-on skills appropriate to each case, followed by the PALS Provider traditional written exam.
This course is geared towards currently certified PALS Providers that are due for renewal and are comfortable and familiar with the PALS curriculum

PALS Challenge (Not Available Until 10/01/2017 due to AHA Policy)
This option is intended for veteran, well-prepared, and confident PALS providers who hold valid PALS Provider and BLS for HCP cards on the date of the session.

The student will serve as Team Leader for two Core Cases and perform the hands-on skills appropriate to each case, followed by the PALS Provider written exam.
A thorough review of PALS Provider references (shown below) prior to the challenge session is strongly suggested. It is expected that the student arrives thoroughly prepared to test and be successful.  A brief opportunity for review and questions is offered, but no teaching or remediation after testing will be offered.  Students who require remediation will be directed to repeat a regular PALS Provider course.
Core Cases and written test will take 1-2 hours to complete, depending upon the number of students attending each session.

Students may request a private evaluation appointment for an additional charge that is not covered by the discount code for RWJ Employees. The date and time will be mutually agreed upon by the student and the RWJ PALS staff.
